Use System Builder, or create a system from a layout,or ExternalAxisWizard-2019.2,Will receive an error from robotware.

40523: Mechanical Unit Conflict
Description
Not possible to activate mechanical unit M7DM1 since mechanical unit ROB\_1 is already active.
Actions
Check the Motion Configuration. Active mechanical units cannot have the same 3:

1. Physical Axis.
2. Logical Axis.
3. Drive Unit Configuration.
IRB8700 is there a way to add a rail?
Or there is a workstation package containing 8700 and rails available？

ABB does not sell a rail for the IRB8700 so no rail is available with RobotStudio.

Gudel have a track for the IRB8700(TMF-5) - you can down load the CAD model from their web site - make a mechanism to move the carriage correctly.

Then you need to modify the motion configuration file (moc.cfg) as per the additional axis and stand alone controller manual - I think most of the details required (eg gearbox ratio) are in the Gudel datasheet.

Have never done this my self but hope this helps.

Are any more details available on what needs to be modified in the configuration to allow IRB 8700s to be mounted on tracks?

Hello kwh145
Yes it is possible to use an IRB8700 on a track. Exemple : [https://youtu.be/VrMgbVI7qes?feature=shared](https://youtu.be/VrMgbVI7qes?feature=shared)
Standard ABB trackmotion does not support this robot.
So you will need a “custom” mechanics, e.g from Gudel or Lucas.
Regarding configuration : the IRB8700 is already using 2x Additionnal Drive Units (ADU7 and ADU8) for the robot’s Joints 4 and Joints 5.
That mean you can only use the Additionnal Drive Unit number 9.
So the configuration of such simulation should be done “manually” :
Create virtual controller for IRB8700 only.
Look at CFG files in RobotWare installation directory, mainly you will have to create manually an additionnal axis file cfg (e.g MU400) to say that is it M9DM1, and that it is a linear axis of type track.
Then in the station import a track mechanism, and link it to M9DM1

Hey,
Has anybody managed to solve this problem? I am getting the same error.
