DSQC 239 RIO Board Remote I/O question

Greetings all,

We are looking to expand the I/O on multiple robot cells we have in house, all cells are S4C (M97A) and older. I know ABB robot have the ability to utilize binary through discrete I/O, however most documentation on this is very limited. I have searched through the product manuals for this and haven’t gotten many questions answered, so hopefully I can get them answered here.

Is it nesessary to use a Remote I/O board to utilize group inputs and outputs? eg. DSQC 239?

If this board is required hardware, then will it communicate with anything other than an Allen-Bradley PLC? I have been told it will not, but I want to ensure this is correct information.

If anyone has any documentation that delves further into this than the product manual I would appreciate that as well!

Thanks,

-Matt

Hello,

I cannot guarantee this information, but, I hope you find it of use.

Some background first.

The DSQC 239 board ABB PN YB560103-CH, is for S3 robots M91A or later. Some information on DSQC 239 parameters for S3 is in the attached file.

The DSQC 350 board ABB PN 3HNE 00025-1, is for S4C robots

Q1: Is it nesessary to use a Remote I/O board to utilize group inputs and outputs? eg. DSQC 239?

A1: On S3 systems there are predefine ports, utilize group inputs and outputs, ALRA instruction is FETCH. On S4, groups of IO can be configured with contiguous inputs and outputs.

Q2: If this board is required hardware, then will it communicate with anything other than an Allen-Bradley PLC? I have been told it will not, but I want to ensure this is correct information.

A2: The board used licensed Allen-Bradley’s RIO protocol, so it will not communicate with anything else. that I am aware of.
