Is it possible to Get and Set positions on external axis in RAB 5.10 or is it the same as the problem berrie asked for in december 2007.

The GetPosition method retrieves the jointtarget position of a mechanical unit. It supports external axis. (The PC SDK Reference Help wrongly says it is not supported.)
