Line scan camera [PickMaster 3]

Hello,

I want to try of working with a line scan camera. I think to use for it a ‘runner’ of ‘Basler’ that works with a GigaEthernet output.

Someone has some experience in it, it is possible ?.

Regards,

Hi,

I’m curious to know what your purpose for using a line scan camera is?
-Resolution
-Minimize space
-Large/long parts
-Other?

Line scan cameras are not supported by PickMaster. Theoretically it could be possible to use something like the Basler Runner to just acquire the image and get it into PickMaster. But I think it would be wise to think through how you would calibrate the camera. What you have in PickMaster is a standard checkerboard calibration - no specialized line scan calibration. Maybe you could use the work area tune in the conveyor direction (x) after calibrating the camera to compensate for the potential difficulty of knowing the reference position of the base frame (the checkerboard would have to be moved during the camera calibration).
Another thing you may have to think about is if you need an overlap between images to see all products entirely as they pass by. Can the camera buffer some lines and re-use them for the subsequent frame?

Please share if you find something out! Regards/
Fredrik

Hi,

You could of course also use the PickMaster SDK - External Sensor. It allows an external vision system to communicate results to PickMaster. In that case an external application handles image acquisition, camera calibration and runtime image processing.
The external vision system could be something you create ypurself or e.g. VisionPro with Basler Runner, or simply an Insight Line-scan camera. The PickMaster SDK provides the means to build the bridge between your vision system and PickMaster. The external sensor will have a .NET API in the upcomming release.

Hello,

The main objective is to reduce space.

The first idea was to use the vision of the pickmaster, but I did not bear in mind the importance of overlap between images.

Thanks Fredrik,
