So I’ll be embarking on learning RobotStudio. I have muddled around with demos and played with virtual pendant. That’s as far as my experience goes. Unfortunately, there is no time for me to go to class training at the moment because we are busy at work currently. So other than tutorial videos and reading some manuals, you guys are my only other resort for help. Tech support with our integrator is limited on RobotStudio and their engineers are booked for any pseudo training help.
I do however, bring 7 years experience writing weld programs on the actual IRC5 controller.
One of the first things I want to tackle is we are changing the physical torch on the real robot. Of course we will modify the bullseye and set tooldata up. My questions are these:
Once tooldata is taught, how do I import that into RobotStudio so I have the correct TCP?
I want to import the correct torch geometry into my pack and go cell. How do I do this? All I have is a STEP file from the robot torch manufacturer. Can this be imported into the ABB Library?
This is where I want to start, I want to make sure all my calibration data is good. I want to talk about userframe later, since we are moving the positioner closer to the robot.

Hi… If I understand correctly, you want to import geometry for a simulation in RS. If that is the case, the first thing you will need is an RS license with the option to import .step files—this is NOT included by default here in Brazil. Do you have this license? If so, you can import the geometry via the “Modeling >> Import Geometry” tab. However, that is just the beginning; I suggest you take some time to look into how to build a tool in RS. Yes we will be getting a licensed RobotStudio, not the trial or default.
This gives me a start, I’ll check it out.
Does my tool data have to match perfectly with what the physical robot has on the real controller? Because like I said this going to be a new TCP.
Okay… Just don’t forget to mention that you want to import .STEP files when purchasing the license.
As for the data, you can input it, but I consider it irrelevant for the simulation.

We did purchase an option called CAD Converter - STEP. So I assume that would cover it.
