Just as a note for you guys who are thinking about security. Encrypting your entire hard drive will provide you with the best protection (that and intelligent operating). You could set it up to have a separate partition to store data in, that could require a different password, or a key file on a USB or SD card.
I’ve used Truecrypt with great success on both Windows and Linux. Just make sure that if you go this route that you back up any valuable data and set up your system to run (if it is operational) without that computer while you do this. This will require you to re-install your system on the encrypted drive, but if you make a backup, it is no big deal.
