When you start RobotStudio for the first time after installation, you are prompted to enter your 25-digit Activation Key (xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx).
The Activation Wizard gives you two choices on how to proceed:
Automatic activation by using the Internet (recommended): Once you have selected the option Activate RobotStudio over the Internet, and proceeded through the Wizard, the Activation Wizard automatically contacts the ABB licensing servers over your Internet connection. If you are using a valid Activation Key that has not exceeded the number of installations allowed, your product is activated immediately.
When you activate over the Internet, your activation request is sent to ABB. Your license will then be automatically installed and your product ready for use. If you choose to activate over the Internet but are not currently connected, the wizard alerts you that there is no connection.
Manual activation: If the computer does not have an Internet connection, you must create a license request file by selecting the option Create a license request file. Proceed through the wizard, enter your Activation Key and save the License Request File to your computer. Use a removable medium, such as a USB stick or floppy disk, to transfer the file to a computer with an Internet connection. Open a web browser and go to http://www101.abb.com/manualactivation/ and follow the instructions. The result will be a License File that should be saved and transferred back to the computer holding your product. Relaunch the Activation Wizard and select the option Install a license file. Proceed through the wizard, selecting the License File when requested. Upon completion, RobotStudio is activated and ready for use.
Q
Is my Activation Key valid for all RobotStudio versions?
A
As long as you have a valid Subscription RobotStudio 5.x activation keys will activate Premium functionality of RobotStudio 5.14 and later. Starting with RobotStudio 5.14, activation keys are version independent, i.e. RobotStudio will remain activated when upgraded to a version later than 5.14. (The RobotStudio 5.x key will not activate RobotStudio 5.13.03 or earlier revisions).
Q
Can I evaluate RobotStudio before placing an order?
A
Trial period: Before entering a valid Activation Key, you can run the software, in Premium functionality mode, with all the features enabled (including the CAD converter options), for a trial period of up to 30 days. Please note that the trial period days start immediately after installation. After entering a valid Activation Key, you will see only the features you have purchased (if installed during the trial period you will lose the trial period time). Basic functionality mode: After the trial period, the software reverts to Basic functionality mode unless you have entered a valid Activation Key. In Basic functionality mode, RobotStudio only allows the use of the Online and basic Virtual Controller features. No existing files or stations are harmed in Basic functionality mode. After activating your software, you will have full functionality for the features you have purchased. Note: Activation is not required for the Online features for programming, configuring and monitoring a real controller connected over Ethernet.
Q
Online Activation does not work, how do I activate the product?
A
Activate the software with a manual activation: Choose the second option in the Activation Wizard:
“I want to request a license file”. Enter your Activation Key and “Save Request…” to an easy place to retrieve the file again… Brows the file via Manual Activation website: http://manualactivation.e.abb.com/
If the you do not have internet connection. Use a removable medium, such as USB stick to transfer the file to a computer with an internet connection.
Q
My RobotStudio 5.14 does not run in parallell with RobotStudio 5.15
A
Note on licensing for RobotStudio 5.14 users
This applies to users who run RobotStudio 5.14.xx in parallel with RobotStudio 5.15 or later.
When you receive a new activation key, it must be activated from RobotStudio 5.14.xx.
If it is activated from RobotStudio 5.15 or later, the license will not work with RobotStudio 5.14. In this case, the license status that is shown if you select ‘View Installed Licenses’ in RobotStudio Options, will be IntegrityProblem.
The solution is to activate the same key also for RobotStudio 5.14. Please contact softwarefactory_support@se.abb.com to get an additional activation for your key if you have been affected by this problem.
