With the new interface we cannot distinguish them.

You should be able to distinguish new post by this icon:
If it doesn’t show up for you it would be interesting to know which browser you are using. (It shows up for me using chrome.)

My workaround for the time being is to click on “recent discussions” The newest are at the top, after Announcements. Also, I would add that maybe Announcements should be filtered out from discussions, as they are not really intended to be “Discussions”, in my opinion.
That’s the way I’m using it myself clicking “recent discussions”.
Great point, I agree that the announcements in some forums were they are many tend to interfere with the user experience.
I will inform the UX team about this feedback and see if it is possible to highlight new posts in a better way in the forum. (Although it will be hard to make any changes before the vacations which are starting now in Sweden)

X new appears only if someone respond to question after read it. Not when it is the first post.
I use recent discussion too, to get them all.
