I wanted to experiment with virtual commissioning with RobotStudio. The ABB manual says to use the OPC UA Client smart component to communicate with a PLC set to function as an OPC UA server. I’m using the virtual PLC Codesys Control Win v3 x64 systray to simulate the PLC.
I have a 5710 robot in my station that uses an Omnicore controller with Robotware7. When I created the new project, I added the 3020-2 PROFINET Device option, the only one available for PROFINET devices.
The problem is that when I go to Controller → Configuration → I/O System, PROFINET Internal Device doesn’t show up. Consequently, when I create a robot signal, I can’t map it to the PROFINET device.
Using a robot with an IRC5 controller instead, I can add the 888-2 PROFINET Controller/Device or 888-3 PROFINET Device option, in which case I can map the signals and use the OPC UA Client smart component to communicate with the PLC.
Why isn’t this possible with Omnicore and Robotware7? Is there a different way to achieve the same?
Thanks.
