I have now succeeded to connect to a remote VC. This is a hidden feature of RobotStudio and no support is available. It is provided on an ‘as-is’ basis which means that if it works it works, and if not, then we may not be able to help. The functionality may be blocked by local firewalls, network policies, Windows configuration, etc, etc. that is out of control of ABB.
The feature requires 5.14.03 to work, i.e. it is not supported by RobotStudio 5.15.
(If you have found the correct folder, it should contain the files uas_groups.xml, uas_groups_template.xml, uas_users.xml. If not, you are in the wrong folder)
The file:
webwiz/772/Vcconf.zip
Shut down RobNetScanHost.exe
Start a VC
From another PC on the network open “Add Controller” and add the controller.
Note: The functionality is not availble for RobotStudio 5.15, but requires 5.14.03. (In 5.15 you will not be able to connect to the controller as you will get an error message.)
as far as I know there are limitations in what you can do with the remote VC.
Parts of the communication with a real controller (using Robot Communication Runtime) uses FTP to send information back and forth. On a true local communicaiton channel, PC to normal local VC, this is implemented as file copy on the local PC. This is not possible on a remote VC. In that case the VC will need an FTP server, as is the case on the RC.
Henrik, could you for exmaple open the RAPID editor when connected to the remote VC?
There is no official support for Remote VC which means that we do not regularly test it, neither do we fix bugs or improve it. The functionality is very limited. On the other hand, I am not aware of any changes made in RobotStudio or RobotWare 6 that has broken the existing (but very limited) functionality.
