Pallet Offset [PickMaster 5]

Hi,
We are currently developing a palletising system where we use the robot to place the pallet onto an out-feed conveyor. We then have a mechanical system to datum the pallet to the conveyor. My problem is that the pallet is moved 30 - 40 mm to align it. When the first layer is placed I end up with an uneven overhang. Can I move all the product layers independently to the datumed pallet which will allow me to even up the product over hang on the pallet?

If you are trying to move everything over, you can use the displacement frame. You are better off keeping your work object as tought.

Choose your posistion source that is a the ‘place’ position source. You can adjust the displacement frame in X or Y or Z. This cordinate system is based on your tought work object coordinates.

Hope this helps.

I don’t want to displace the pallet just the product that will be placed onto the pallet.

This can be done in the pallet pattern. Unfortunately, PM does not let you overhang a pallet. In the past, I have fooled the program by using larger dimensions on for the pallet then actual. You can justify each layer to one side or another by the amount of mm that you want the layers to be from the pallet itself. If you make the pallet larger then it actually is, you will have to play with the ‘Pick’ position source since the centerline will be offset.

Another way to do this is in RAPID by adding a ModAction Procedure and put on offset in for the pallet.

John,
It is possible with PM5 to overhang a pallet.

Great! Thanks for this knew knowledge. I did not think about trying a negative margin.
