Has anyone done any communication between a RobotStudio Virtual controller to a real external PLC? Is this actually possible? Thanks for any comments or help.

This depends on which PLC you have to communicate with.
If you use ProfiNet, you can use these addons:

You can find them in Add-ins tab on RobotApps.
But use upper links to download them.
I have used the sdk to communicate via an OPC client connection to KepServer which then can communicate with a variety of PLCs

I plan to use OPC to change mine.
