What dual core computers work?

Seeing as there is a lot of debate around what dual core processors work with 5.08. I would like to request that people with experiance in this matter, both good and bad. Post a reply to this to tell me what computers work and what ones dont.

I think the essential information would work eg:

  • Brand
  • Model
  • Processor
  • Ram
  • Graphics config
  • Comments

Please take up this request as It may help ABB sort out this problem and I need to update my hardware so I want to buy what works!!!

Thanks

Russ

My Laptop failed to work with Robot Studio 5.08 as long as my dual core was enabled.

I have a Toshiba Tecra,

2.00ghz Centrino Duo Intel Processor,

1 gb of Ram,

And a Nvidia Quadro NVS 300M Video card.

It is extremely frustrating, I hope they get this fixed in the next release of Robot Studio!

Thanks,

Thanks Dustin,

It is my aim to hear from around 50 people, that way as a community of robotstudio users we can make informed choices for hardware.

hi

I have a Laptop :DELL PRECISION M90 2MB ram, 512 mb graphic card.

Works perfect with robotware 5.08, but with robotware 5.07 i have to disable the multicoresupport

Working just fine so far …

IBM T60 2007 -49G Laptop

Intel CPU T2400 @ 1.83GHz

1,50 GB of RAM

ATI Mobility Radeon X1300

Best regards,

Mika

Working just fine except

  • Takes longer time for the VC to start than if I disable dual core.
  • Multiselect of faces doesn’t work

Compaq/HP nw8440
Intel T7400 2.16Ghz
1Gb of RAM
ATI Mobility FireGL V5200

Runnig Direct3D as render in RS
Runnig RS 5.09 Beta but it worked ok in 5.08 as well

Is anybody using laptops based on AMD dual core technology?

I am using a Dell M90 Dual Core T2500 with XP and 2 GB RAM.

Slow when starting the Flex Pendant, calculating configurations, starting the VC.

Just an update with how things changed when I upgraded to 5.09… They didn’t I still have the same issue.

My PC is:

3.0GHz

512MB RAM

64Mb Graphics Controller

I have problems when I minimize and maximize RS 5.08window. Sometimes appears the message “Failed to inicialize Render”.

Slow when starts controller

HP NW9440

CoreT 2 Duo Processor T7200 2.0 GHz

NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500M

2G RAM

Having linear track setting issue with RS5.08, the problem seems fixed in RS5.09.

When there are more than 4000 targets in the station, it is slow if we change tool data or try auto configuration.

I would like to thank all of you who took the time to reply. This has been a frustrating experiance for everybody who has experianced problems with Dual core processors.

I would also like to ask any of the ABB moderators for a comment on the state of the game. This clearly is a big issue for ABB, I can only begin to imagine the level of frustration that you guys have given the level of excellence that your product has. It would be nice to get an indication of what the challenge is and how that relates to the robot controller and the future of the software.

Thanks, Russell

AMD Turion 64 X2 1.6 GHz

2 GB Memory

NVidia GeForce Go 256 MB

Vista Home Premium

Like the Intel Dual-Cores, RobVC really thrashes on this machine unless you change the processor affinity. Otherwise, RS seems to function OK on Turion.

Vista itself is quite a resource (esp. memory) hog, so I suspect 2 GB of memory would be minimum to run RS comfortably.
