PROMIA and Virtual Controller

Hi to everyone and Happy New Year!!

I have to develop a program for Renault in PROMIA.
I have an old backup with PROMIA Version 50.61.1701.17 and Robotware 5.61

I’m trying to generate a virtual controller in Robotstudio, but when creating it shown the “error PROMIA Option Not Installed”.

Anyone know how to proceed? I’m quite confused with this topic and I don’t find a lot of info regarding to Promia.

Hi Roberto, the “PROMIA Option Not Installed” error means the PROMIA option key is not included in the virtual controller’s system configuration. PROMIA is a licensed option that must be explicitly added when building the system in RobotStudio it doesn’t carry over automatically from the backup.

Here’s what to check:

  1. When creating the virtual controller from your backup, go to System Builder and verify that the PROMIA option (the license key from your real controller) is listed under the system’s options. If it’s missing, you’ll need to add it manually.
  2. Make sure the RobotWare 5.61 add-in is fully installed in RobotStudio (not just downloaded you need to run the installer from the unzipped folder).
  3. If you don’t have the PROMIA license key available, you can contact ABB Software Factory support at softwarefactory_support@se.abb.com to get it linked to your system. Hope it helps!

I’m not sure where you’re getting this information, but it is not fully accurate.

This team does not support licenses for RobotWare addins/options.

If you’re using an LLM to generate this “information”, please make sure to verify that it is not “disinformation” before posting it.

Thank you for the correction. You’re right that I mixed up the scope of that support contact. The email softwarefactory_support@se.abb.com does exist — it’s listed in the ABB Community FAQ for RobotStudio installation and activation issues (posted by Kim from ABB here: FAQ - Installation & Activation). However, I incorrectly assumed it also covers RobotWare add-in/option licenses like PROMIA too.

I apologize for the confusion.
